How sweet! I love how some are choosing names of Bollywood stars-- my grandmother wasn't named (it's a long story) until she was applying for college at 17, and she chose an actress' name.
There is no official one child policy in India. However, there is alot of governmental coercian to keep families small in some areas. I read somewhere that familes that have no more than two children are given preferential treatment from the government.
There is no question that alot of eastern religions devalue women, but without population control the sex ratio issue would,at most, be a small problem. Think how much easier it would be to raise the status of women in India if there were a healthy sex ratio. |
