My theory is that everyone involved in creating a new human live has some liability for the costs of supporting that person from conception through adulthood. Were our courts to agree the fertility industry would be held to basic standards of decency not now considered relevant.
The unfulfilled desire to know our genetic parents is only one of many ethical problems caused by this industry. The Octomom told the story of publicly supported multiple births caused by IVF. Some of these human beings suffer health problems, many are never given a chance to be born but die in frozen storage. Pro- Life people fight for the life of newly created embryos yet once surplus embryos are here they are likely to be sacrificed in research or eventually disposed of. This industry might slow down if it were forced to pay for prenatal care, child support and other costs when families are in need. Who is working to hold this industry accountable? |
