Implying that women choose abortions in America because of racism or sexism is completely absurd.
Those who oppose abortion in the name of saving a life are better off supporting access to birth control and comprehensive sexual education. They should focus resources on the unwanted children who were not aborted, who lack access to basic necessities. Banning abortion all together will have disastrous results. Women will obtain unsafe and dangerous abortions, unwanted children will pose greater financial burdens on society, and women who suffer miscarriages may be forced to go through the painful process of proving that it was actually a miscarriage and not an abortion. Religious people do not want secular values, or other religious values, be forced on them, especially where it results in a restriction of rights. Similarly, it is equally unfair for Catholics to force their religious beliefs upon secular people, especially where the secular woman who is unable to obtain an abortion (or birth control) ultimately suffers a greater harm than would the Catholic who can choose not to engage in it herself. |
