Minced-up Human Fetuses

Awhile back I wrote about a new media for growing embyonic stem cell lines. This new media was "animal-free." I surmised that it may be taken from minced-up human embryos. Turned out in that case, I was wrong. But I was not far off. It seems that some researchers are using aborted fetuses to grow their embryonic stem cells lines. Read this article. Here is an excerpt:

A SYDNEY scientist says he has developed a new way to grow embryonic stem cells without using tissues from dead animals - a technique that could speed the approval of stem cell therapies for humans. Previous stem cell lines have been grown using "feeder layers" derived from animals. But Kuldip Sidhu has developed a new stem cell line using matter taken from aborted human foetuses.
