Sounds a lot like an episode of the X-files I watched recently.
I have 3 nieces conceived using donor sperm and IVF. In each "try" there were multiple attempts - who knows how many little souls. We tried to convey the Church's teaching at the time, to no avail. Childless couples are so painfully desperate, I'm not sure what would influence them toward accepting ethical means or considering other options like adoption. We do know that there was a reason for the infertility, and that was a cancer that was discovered shortly later and led to the death of the husband. Incidentally, there are also a few strange anomalies in the children that have come to light, lack of a sense of smell in one case. Human experimentation, indeed. So sad.
