Well, you have a point there. My elder daughter had a friend who was molested as a young teen by a grown man and had lost her reproductive ability to cervical cancer by the time she graduated from high school. It's a scary thought that some creep can mess you up to that degree even if your behavior has been exemplary.
It does concern me to hear of states making the vaccine mandatory; I hope this attitude doesn't spread nationwide. While I don't think vaccinating your daughter need be a license to promiscuity, I do think that vaccines for diseases that are essentially "lifestyle" should be at the parents' discretion rather than the state's. At this point, I won't be jumping on the vaccine bandwagon with my daughters; whether I change my mind in the future depends in part on how the early generations of the vaccine go and in part on my best assessment of how likely they are to be at risk from the disease.
Thanks for writing this and for agreeing with me! I'm not the most popular person in some circles simply because of giving the data. Some days, I need validation.
