I agree with you... a candidate's view of the unborn reflects their understanding of human dignity and justice. It reveals their system of values which provide the basis for the decisions that they will make.
I find candidates' protestations of compassion for all humanity tend to ring hollow when they try to explain away a pro-choice worldview.
There may be a few who can articulate this form of dualism without major semantic gymnastics (or baseless cliches) but I haven't encountered them. For me it's not a single issue--just a fundamental one.
I am pro-life and actively religious, but I am pro-life independent of my religious beliefs. Those who are pro-choice/pro-abortion often argue that religious beliefs of some should not be forced on others. However, respect for human life in all its stages, is an almost world-wide held value. Are we all not abhored when innocent civlilans are killed by a terriorist bomb in a crowded market in Baghdad? Or by an errant bomb/shell from an American artillary piece striking a school in Kabul? Or members of one tribe hacking off the heads of others in a rival tribe in Africa?
We are all abhored at these above events. It does not matter whether we are Christians, athiests, jews, agnostics, muslims or animists. We are ALL abhored. Given the scientific fact that all human life begins when the human sperm cell unites with the human egg, I am deeply displeased by public figures not abhored by induced abortion except for defense of the mother's life. I regard those public figures who hold pro-choice beliefs as bi-polar dillusionaries with regard to the value of human life, regardless of their religious beliefs/practices, and therefore not worthy of holding public office.
I laughed at this video, sorry.
'Some issues are more important than others' showing a baby then petrol prices... aka ban abortion and face the massive rise in population it would bring, yet ignore the economy that's causing families to lose the homes and health insurance they need to bring those babies up in safety, health and happiness. And 8 years of the Bush administration should tell you that Republicans only use abortion as a vote-winner. They have absolutely no intention of banning it, so your 'one-issue' vote countrs for nothing. Duh. |
