When I was an undergrad, I knew a girl who carelessly got pregnant, and told the father, and he laughed in her face, "You can't prove it's me!"
Now, we can prove paternity beyond a shadow of doubt. If you sire a kid, you're liable. Thanks to Big Bill's personal example (VERY personal), everyone knows this. There's a strong argument to be made that he did more to promote sexual discretion than anyone. However, sometime in the future we will learn to package someone's genome (technically hemi-genome) into functional gametes and it will become possible to steal a DNA sample and impregnate someone with it. That means the fathers will again be able to deny (willing) paternity by claiming to be victims of DNA theft. Loge (demigod of hi-tech) gives and then he takes. They call him the tricky demigod. He has way more control over society than the voters have. "As private parts to the gods are we; they play with us for their sport!" --BLACKADDER. Do you want to see the future of chemistry? Google Peter G. Schultz. The intelligent-design strategy is being replaced, not by natural selection, but by unnatural selection. Everywhere from materials engineering to stem-cell specialization to physical biochemistry to new catalysts to expanding the genetic code with new protein-building-blocks. Why do one experiment at a time when you can do billions? |
