Wow.
The intellectually/morally consistent, true Conservative position is not to create the to-be-unused embryos in the first place. I think, eventually, Conservatives (especially, the Catholics/Evangelicals) will have to come to grips with IVF. That said, the creation/existence of embryos unused for IVF does not preclude the obvious moral wrong of destroying such (or any) embryos to harvest stem cells (or for any other reason).

The Catholic Church has already said that IVF is immoral for this very reason. Although many American Catholics seem to think that they can disregard Rome on matters of "reproductive rights." Our priests and bishops have failed us in this area as well. My guess is that most Catholics do not even know their Church condemns IVF. |
